Pick Up FREE Seeds and Purchase Garden Containers, Worm Castings, and Frost Cloth (Dec.-Mar.)
December 11 @ 7:00 am - 10:00 am
An event every week that begins at 7:00 am on Wednesday and Saturday, repeating until February 26, 2025
During December through March, stop by to pick up FREE seeds and purchase our 30-gallon garden container kits, worm castings, and frost cloth from 7am to 10am at our Nuestra Tierra Learning Garden, located past the playground on the west side of the Community Food Bank’s building on S. Country Club Rd.
- FREE SEEDS: as available. Did you know last year we distributed 60,695 seed packets?
- 30-GALLON GARDEN CONTAINER KITS: (sliding scale $30-$50), self-watering, and a great way to grow food without a yard.
- WORM CASTINGS: 1 gallon for $5
- FROST CLOTH: 6 ft x 12 ft (sliding scale $5-$15). Limit of 48 feet.
- In Southern Arizona, frost cloth is typically used during the cooler months from November through March to protect plants from freezing temperatures. The exact timing can vary each year, but here are some general guidelines:
- First Frost Date: Frost usually begins around November.
- Last Frost Date: Freezing temperatures typically taper off by March.
- Gardeners keep a close eye on weather forecasts during this time. Frost cloth is essential for protecting plants on nights when temperatures are expected to drop below 32°F (0°C).
Plant purchasing should be available again soon (once our new Greenhouse is completed and stocked).
