Keeping Good Food Out of Landfills
With 30% of the country’s produce growing in or traveling through Arizona farmlands, and 5.9 billion pounds of produce coming through the port of entry in Nogales annually, we are one of the most agriculturally rich areas in the nation. Unfortunately, much of that produce goes straight to landfills.
Our Produce Rescue Team works to save fresh, nutritious produce that would otherwise go to waste and get it to the tables of people who need it. We work with produce brokers in Nogales to capture excess produce, and with partners all over the nation to ship that produce to places that need it. We're doing more than feeding southern Arizona—last year, we shipped rescued produce to 23 states in the Feeding America network.
